Happy Birthday Website! (And my name’s not Jerod, I just liked the cake!)

That’s Right, on June 17th, 1998 my father (and me) founded this website. Way back then there were a handful of sites that were online. (Fan Sites that is) To name a few:

Spider-Man Crawl Space (Though it didn’t start til 8/8/98)

Sam Ruby.com (Also known as Amazing Spider-Man.info)

Spider-Fan.org (Formerly known as the Unofficial Spider-Man Webpage!)

JR’s Fettinger’s Spidey Kicks Butt! (Then part of the MadGoblin’s Ward, again I believe in late 98 as well)

Alvarios Spider-Man Message Board

Those are still up today. Eric’s a nice guy, giving us the best scans on the web, Brad has the Coolest Message Board on the web, Spider-Fan has good reviews, JR’s cranking out a article a year, and if  you ask me, it’s all good reading! It’s so funny because I never thought I’d be here, certainly my Dad never thought it’d be here. So from us, to you, thank you, for sticking with us for the past 11 years, and for the newbies, WELCOME! A big thanks to Brad Douglas, who kept plugging the site, month after month. You’re awesome. To My Dad, for founding the site, and to Marvel, for recently giving me a reason to keep going after I finish the big articles.

Okay, so we got our mini. Confirmed by Tom DeFalco, him and Howard Mackie (Yes, the Howard Mackie from the Retool, er Reboot) Is co-writing this epic 6 part mini series, featuring Ben and Peter together, for the first time since 96.

It’s what fans for the most part are clarmoring for. After the Jump I’ll give thoughts on some of the possible outcomes.

I know how Rich Johnson feels now.
Tuesday, we helped break the story about a possible Ben Reilly return, citing the Marc Guggenhiem interview over at Marvel.com, we concluded that his slip may very well be the biggest event to hit the Spider-Verse in awhile that wasn’t related to reboots (OMD) or milestone issues, and that’s Ben Reilly’s (possible) return.

Newsarama finally hit up the story.

Which, I’m glad, but seriously? Could this guy be more negative?

With a phrase like: Forget Bucky and forget Barry Allen: Ben Reilly is like a can of worms stuck inside a barrel of gunpowder.  Or worse yet: a clone of Peter Parker.

He also states that its something Marvel has previously avoided, but if they hated it so much, then why oh why did we see Peter use Ben’s name as a disguise, plus an image inducer…

Again, It made my day that we caught this on Monday. Feel Free to discuss this on the Message Board

Okay so we know that in July that we get a Annunal, to coinside with ASM’s big 104 pages of awesomeness known as issue 600. (Okay awesomeness remains to be seen.) But Marc G. let out a bit of a slip when talking about the anni over at Marvel.com:

Who says it’s just one thing?” queries Guggenheim in return. “How about reintroducing a character whose last name is ‘Reilly’? How about the introduction of a new villain who will play a pivotal role in the upcoming series arc, ‘Who Is Ben Reilly?’”

So our next big deal is: A new Arc called Who Is Ben Reilly?

Not quite the omibi that I was looking for, but hey… I’ll take Ben Reilly back in the new Status Quo.

BUT I WANT TRADES DAMMIT!

Damn I’m good too. I called it in ASM 600. I was off by an Anni.

clone_saga149WEBHEADS! It’s Zach Joiner. Yup, the guy who runs this website. Several months ago, I started an ‘Alpha’ edition of this very series of articles because A) I wanted a informal introduction, and B) I also wanted to poke fun at the Clone Saga’s ‘Jump into the pit of doom‘ moment. Note that it’s not our ‘jump the shark’ moment, Because for fans of that, it comes a couple of months earlier.Folks, since I’ve been around Spidey Boards, the Clone Saga is hated. I mean, hated. Imagine, if you will, a story where your fan base is divided, sales are slipping after a boost intitally, and you’ve got people leaving in droves.

Sound Familiar?

It does to me. Because take the Clone Saga out of this, and look at the current predicament. These same people who left the book, more than likely are the same people who are leaving now. As an Administrator over at the Spider-Man Crawl Space Website, I have the… duty to stifle the hatred of Rabid Fanboys (and Girls!) and direct them to polite conversation. It’s a thankless job, but when your good buddy webmaster plugs your site every month on the #1 rated Spider-Man Centric Podcast on the intertoobs, then you gladly accept that as payment.

But with the Clone Saga, you got more of the same. If the internet existed back then, I’d be on the Pro-side, and the guys like the infamous Berryman would be on the Anti side. (Sorry George.) It happens. But here’s the deal with the ‘Saga: It was one of the best selling story lines of the 90’s. And it took a change of the guard for people in Marvel to finally admit it. Joe Quesada has said Numerous times that it’s the most requested trade paperback series at Marvel and if it was SO BAD, then why would it be so requested?

That’s what this series of articles is about. Read the rest of this entry »

Okay, so it’s been way too long since last post, but you know what? This post was warranted. Today we got the Full Solicitations from Marvel for August. While we got the Spider-Man Solits last week, there was one Solit that has everyone buzzing:

MARVEL SPOTLIGHT: SUMMER EVENTS
Written by JOHN RHETT THOMAS
It’s the summer, which means it’s time to hit the beach with some summer reading! And that means adding a little SPOTLIGHT to your fun in the sand and surf! This month, we’ll check in on all the events that are making Summer ‘09 a season to remember: The original Human Torch is back, and he isn’t the only one returning; there’s a new Fantastic Four and a new creative team on DAREDEVIL; the REAL Clone Saga is laid bare; and more. If we add anything else to this issue, we’ll have to include a complimentary parka to help you make it through December! SPOTLIGHT is your Summer Events HQ with exclusive content you won’t find anywhere else — so buy one for yourself, and one for your friendly neighborhood lifeguard!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

Now the Phrase “the REAL Clone Saga is laid bare” Is a Key thing as we have to try to figure out wheather or not we will see Ben as Scarlet or Ben at all for that matter in the ASM books. It seems that they are toying with a possible return to the Spider-Verse after a 12 year absence. And I’m making a BOLD Prediction now:

BEN REILLY WILL BE BACK FOR AMAZING’S 600TH ISSUE!

That’s right, I said it. Look at ASM’s Solit:

The greatest Marvel super hero of all celebrates his 600th issue with the biggest all-original issue of Amazing Spider-Man EVER! This one’s got it all! The return of Doctor Octopus, Daredevil, a wedding you never predicted, and the return of one of the most important people in Peter Parker’s life in a giant-sized lead story by Dan Slott and John Romita Jr. Doc’s back in town, but it’s only a prelude to darker days ahead as Spidey unknowingly prepares for a gauntlet he can’t even see coming.

One would suspect that this person returning would be MJ, but reading into it, I dare say it’s Peter’s ‘Brother’.

I hope I’m right.

You know, As someone who looks at Brad’s Site every. single. day. I look with a little bit of Amazement at how the guy can get a update a day.

Than I look at my Posts here, and I’m.. well I’ve not posted in almost a month. Which isn’t very good is it?

But today, I’m at work, reading up on JR’s articles over at Spideykicksbutt.com and I come across something that I overlooked that I kinda want to write about. Feeling Inspired I suppose.

Way back in Amazing Spider-Man 546, in Brand New Day’s First arc, (Which really concluded with Character Assassination, even though naysayer and people who don’t like the direction overall, not just because of the Joephisto mindf–k, but due to it being so damn bland) We got a quote from Betty Brant saying that Peter has a ‘five’.

JR said it was Alltel. Which is not correct. Sorry JR, but if you really really look at it, it’s someone else.

Little Known Fact of the moment about your illustrious webmaster: I’ve worked in the Cell Phone Industry for 2 years.

Another little known fact: I’ve worked for AT&T, Sprint, Alltel, and currently Verizion & Heilo.

Having worked in all of these places, I’ll personally attest to what everyone has, doesn’t have, and which companies would make MOST sense for Peter Parker.

AT&T, at this moment, doesn’t have a five/Ten/Twenty favorites. As it stood in early 2008 they had the Largest Mobile to Mobile community of any place in the US. There rationale was that they didn’t need it because of A) Rollover Minutes, and B) if they are the big dogs chances are your buddies that you call are AT&T. Besides they are the most expensive for what you get.

Verizon: At the time, they didn’t have a ‘Five’, so they pretty much are out of this, although, as I’ll allude to later, this could be the choice.

Sprint: Sprint is notorious for being easy on Credit. I mean, really easy on Credit. Loopholes are the size of my home state. Trust me. But it can’t be because of the pricing on the plans, and they don’t offer a “five”. So Nix them.

Heilo: Despite the fact 85% if the world hasn’t heard of Helio, they were their own mobile company before Virgin Mobile bought them out. Credit is supposed to be easy, but it can have some issues. They do have a cap, at $325, but I doubt that Peter can pay that up front, as well as for a phone.

Altell: They existed back in 2008, as their own company. But given their spotty coverage, their sometimes tight credit checks, Peter would have a terrible time on a Post-Paid plan. Their Pre-Paid did support the Circle of Friends, the 5, 10 or 20 numbers, but bills were generally higher. I say were because they completed their Buyout/Merger with Verizon on January 9th of this year. So Verizon offers their Friends and Family, but it’s much more expensive, and their credit checks are usually 400 dollar deposits. (If you think that’s high, try seeing an 800 dollar for a single line on AT&T.) So while they have a five, the most logical choice would be…

T-Mobile.

They got the Favs. (5 Numbers of friends to call unlimited, started not long after Alltel announced mycircle.) They also have crazy easy credit checks and the cheapest on any network. Their Coverage sucks, generally speaking, but they are very very cheap. So it makes the most sense for our struggling creepy-stalker-loser Peter Parker to be on T-Mobile, which is what I THINK Dan Slott was alluding to in ASM 546. Although I’ll disagree with Wacker on the Pre-Paid deal, as yes, he’s sign a contract, but little to no credit will get you out the door easy with T-Mobile.

Could be off base.

Now I’m just waiting on my No-Prize.

UPDATE: We’ll have CS Chronicles up and running by the end of the week. I hope. If not, Saturday night looks like a sure bet.

Thanks for Being there!

Last Night (March 17th), We learned that not only would Spider-Girl, the longtime series set in an alternate future starring the future daughter of Spider-Man, be featured in the Amazing Spider-Man Family Title, but also on the exclusive Online Subscription service, as the very first ongoing online title. I think mainly this has to do with the fact that ASMF has an extremely limited life span as a young title, simply because of the $5 Price Tag, and because for that 5 Bucks, you’re only getting maybe $3 Dollars worth of story, as most of the issue is filled with reprints.

While from the Marketing Standpoint, This title is to be accessable to younger readers, for the majority of the Spider-Girl Fanbase, it’s simply an extra 2 dollars they have to dish out for their favorite heroine. And judging by the sales on the book, ASMF will most likely be cancelled by the end of the year. Especially with the title going monthly. Will I still pick it up? Yes, but only for Spider-Girl, and sometimes for other features. (Think of issue 4’s excellent Harry Osborn/Peter Parker Story.) The rest of the book, mainly the reprints, aren’t very good, and I especially HATE the Amazing Spider-Ma’am, which is the stupidest thing since JLApes/Marvel Apes. While they’re supposed to be cute, they’re not.

I love Tom, Ron, and Sal, and I wish them well, but as we slowly start going digital, it’s nice to see a low selling critially acclaimed title get a new breath of life. Sadly, the Subscription is monthy, and costs the same as the ASMF title, 5 Dollars.

So when you’re going to your comic shop this week, ask for ASG, and at least check out the title before the relaunch.

So I’ve been havign a HELL of a couple of weeks, as I’ve been moving, starting a  new job which gives me little to no time for anything, and having to dig my way out of everything is annoying. But I did it twice.

You see, I ended my lease on Feb. 28th.

The final week of Feburary was spent in preperation, meanwhile, I was getting a new place. This place seemed nice enough, but there was a couple of issues with it: A) the rooms were awfully small. B) the place had to be redone. They had been working on it, and I assumed that they would be done. So I got alll my stuff over there, and lo behold, still not done. So they gave us another place nearby to store stuff. Fine, they’ll be done by Friday the 6th. I counted down the days, and sure enough, they came in friday and “Finished.”

“Finished” to them was filthly floors, leaky toliets, terrible paint jobs, and the shoddiest looking place I’d ever see. We accepted it after we made a deal with the place for Pro-Rated rent and a free final month for all our troubles.

Then came the Roaches, which was of course the last straw.

We luckily found a place under short notice, but I had to give up my 55″ TV in the process.

Sure it was on it’s last leg, but it was MINE! BIG SCREEN. Finally at 3 AM Monday morning I lemented and saved our backs from dragging that thing up three flights of stairs.

Point of this post is: I’m shooting for April 1st for the next update of CSC. Until then, enjoy our nearly daily updates.
